Deep Cover Review: A Tale of the Underdogs that will have you HOWLING With Laughter!

“Clowning is an art” the minute those words left Orlando Bloom’s mouth, the audience roared for the umpteenth time.

“Deep Cover” is a comedy film you do not want to miss. Every five minutes the Tribeca audience at the world premiere howled with laughter at the chaotic trio that was Kat (Bryce Dallas Howard), Marlon (Orlando Bloom), and Hugh (Nick Mohammed). The story is a comedy that is an ideally genius idea. Kat, an improv coach, finds herself making a deal with a cop to go undercover in the drug world. Alongside her are Marlon, a struggling actor, and Hugh, a shy and awkward office worker. The unlikely trio goes undercover and gets deeper and deeper to the bottom of the bottle.

The film had many hilarious moments, like when Hugh was forced to snort cocaine, dubbed the nickname “Squire”, Kat’s “intervention”, and even a scene one that involved dismemberment that had the world premiere audience crying from laughter.

I have never witnessed a movie audience in my lifespan years that made me laugh so hard. Belly laughter. HOWLING laughter. Mind you, while these actors have dabbled in comedy, action is their speciality. Yet somehow they managed to pull off the most hilarious wild comedy shown at Tribeca Film Festival this year!

The main character everyone loved and laughed in response to the most was Marlon, when as a struggling actor, would improvise his backstories as part of his necessary role of the film. The crazy ways he would improvise, especially when it came to “Deniro” and “Manchester” was the most unexpected comedy bound to make everyone laugh.

And as wild and satirical as the story is, many can relate to the main characters. With Kat being in a different place in life than her girlfriends’, Hugh not fitting into his office workplace, and with Marlon struggling to get by in pursuit of his dreams. While as crazy as the story might be… the truth lies in how these examples are stories and happening of every thirty something year old.

The only criticism is the runtime is a little lengthy. But even then, with this kind of hilarious trio, you never want the journey to end.

Deep Cover is out on Prime Video June 12th!
