The heatwaves of June aren’t the only thing bringing the heat over the past week, as The Night Agent actor has had various news and updates on his upcoming projects released! For starters, his previously untitled Netflix film directed by Katheryn Bigelow finally has a title and release date: House of Dynamite! The film releases in select theaters in October, and will be available on the streaming service on October 24th! Bass will also be starring alongside Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, and more in this explosion of a film! The announcement came with a joint post of the film’s now official Instagram page and Netflix Film, with the back of a soldier and an eerie red background in frame.
Another project making headlines is one of Basso’s projects with Lionsgate, The Strangers: Chapter 2. He’ll be reprising his role as one of the “strangers”, and the trailer has gained traction rapidly since it was posted to Lionsgate’s social media platforms just recently. Basso, who donned a snake tattoo for his film Juror No 2, now dons a smiley face tattoo near his ear, the same one one of the big axe welding “strangers” had in the film (both fake, of course, even though Basso has a few real ones). Many have voiced their excitement for the second chapter, even more so than the first, and also surprised the strangers’ identities are revealed in this film.

In a plot twist, Rudy Pankow’s character of the hit Netflix series Outer Banks, JJ Maybank, was sadly killed by his biological father, at the end of season 4. JJ Maybank, arguably the most beloved Pogue of all amongst fans, had an exit that left many in an uproar, and even divided the fanbase. A few cast members also noticeably unfollowed Pankow at the time, with Pankow also unfollowing, with fans wondering if there was some behind the scenes drama beneath the surface amongst his farewell. Fans are devastated JJ Maybank won’t be around for the final season of the hit treasure hunt. However, they can be excited yet again in an unexpected Netflix crossover!

Via Deadline and many other sources, the two hit Netflix series actors will be putting on their cowboy hats and saddling up for this new western rodeo drama, Cowboy! The story, according to IMDb, will revolve around a “seasoned rodeo cowboy and a young aspiring rider (the seasoned cowboy presumably being Gabriel Basso and the young aspiring rider being Rudy Pankow) navigating personal demons, harsh realities, and the pursuit of glory, while their relationship evolves from mentorship to rivalry” The logline further delves into detail, “Set against the backdrop of the traveling rodeo circuit, Cowboy follows a ragtag group of bull riders, barrel racers and pickup men as they chase fleeting glory beneath the glow of arena lights, under the neon haze of roadside bars, and behind the twin beams of car light leading them into the night. It’s dusty, dangerous, and deeply human.”

The project is being launched by Paint Horse Pictures and Brightlight Pictures, and production is already underway! The film will be directed by Cameron Duddy, and this will be his feature directorial debut. The script, written by Adair Cole, is based on a story by both Duddy and Jess Carson, members of the country band Midland. Duddy has already expressed passion over this project, saying in statements released to press“This is a personal story for me. It’s a film about what it takes to grind it out on the road chasing your dreams, and the emotional and physical toll it takes on all of us, most of all the people we love," he had said. “Cowboy is a raw and honest look at the rodeo world built from the dust up — it’s about grit, humility, integrity, freedom … 1,800 pounds of rough stock at a time.”
The Cowboy film already has an Instagram account, with Rudy Pankow following it. “‘The road breaks you. The ride remakes you’ _ COWBOY 2026 Directed by @cameronduddy with @benfosterofficial @rudeth Gabe Basso @markaroo” The bio says, and the account also posted six pictures to form a rodeo bleachers grid picture, with an American flag to the left. Pankow even teased a sketch of a cowboy, presumably part of a script cover, and tagged the official Cowboy movie account!
Pankow and Basso are already known to have accomplished some pretty incredible stunts while filming, with Basso confirming himself he’s stellar at his stunts. So it will be interesting to see both of these actors take up horseback riding and rodeo activities! Netflix fans of both The Night Agent and Outer Banks are in for a wild ride and need to reel in the reigns for this new and upcoming project!
